This is the End, Beautiful Friend
After several years blogging here on and off, it seems that I got the wrong subscription this time around. So I'm saying goodbye . . .
When I first started writing here, back in 2005, I had only been playing around with Mandrake for a short time, but the relief from having to depend upon XP felt absolutely priceless. Three years and several versions of Powerpack later, I am quite confident that if I never had to use XP/Vista/Win7/Midori ever again, I would be quite happy. The reasons for this are many (and I have written about them here quite often) and remain the same; XP is not secure enough and still requires about half-a-dozen different bits of AV and other anti-malware apps; I can only get it here in Korean, and that in itself represents an unacceptable security risk. We are told (at places like
http://www.osnews.com/) that M$ is planning a completely different system called Midori for the post-Windows 7 world, but I won't inhale . . . M$ got it wrong right at the beginning and after twenty years of utter crap, I won't be looking back, either.
Anyway, it seems that I got the wrong subscription this time around, and as a result, this blog will disappear in a few days time. I will continue to be a faithful Mandriva supporter because this distro does everything I want it to and more; I do not have enough hours in a day to explore everything that it has to offer.
This blog will cease to be because I cannot see why I should fork out a second time after having paid once for the privilege of downloading the MDV 2008.1 DVD ISO. This can wait until 2009.0 comes along.
And you can be
absolutely certain that I shall still be here in Korea, as my Boss has signed me up for my sixth consecutive year with his school. I shall continue to explore Linux and encourage others to do the same. But although I might consider getting a Mac at some time in the future, I will not be abandoning Mandriva. She's called "the queen of distributions", and I'm not defecting any time soon.
From the Land of Morning Calm,
Andrew. ^_^
